S&HCFA Junior Cup 2nd Round

On a miserable, dreary, and dull day in Brampton, Valley Knights were hoping to claim a cup scalp over higher league opposition, Byron House. Within the first few minutes of the game, the difference in class and quality between to two sides shone through. The game could’ve been wrapped up early on but a string of fine saves from Ben Dark kept the home side level. Valley knights took the lead through Luke Knowles, be it against the run of play. Byron house seemed to be comfortable in possession, but a careless back pass by Shaun Higginbotham was pounced upon by Zak Green. He was then clean through on goal and finished the move by unselfishly passing the ball into Luke Knowles’s path who slotted the ball into an empty net.

However the unlikely goal didn’t change the path of the game, and after what seemed to be endless pressure, Byron House finally found an equaliser on the stroke of half time. An exquisite through ball from Daniel Nelson gave Ben Sargent a ‘one on one’ but he could only hit the post. Fortunately, Jordan Meadows was the quickest to react and he fired the ball over the line.

In the second half the two teams played like the weather itself. Dull, with no sign of brightening up. But thankfully, it did! Byron house came close to gaining the lead on a number of occasions, but a combination of wayward shooting and fine goalkeeping came in their way. However, the away side finally took the lead when a well-placed free kick was met by a fine header from Chris Edwards. Byron House were assured of the win when a terrific solo run from Daniel Nelson saw him neatly find his way past 3 static defenders, before curving the ball around the legs of the Valley Knights keeper.
