Houghton Main and High Green keep up the pressure

It was a short fixture list in the County Senior League this week, due to the Sheffield & Hallamshire County FA Association, Senior and Junior Cups starting.

Premier Division

There was just one fixture in the Premier Division, with Houghton Main looking to close the gap on leaders Swinton Athletic, as they travelled Frecheville. That they did, with a 2-0 win, with goals from Adam Stead and Ashley Emmett. Houghton Main trail the leaders by just a point but have played two games more than their rivals.

Division One

High Green Villa are just one point behind Division One leaders Thorpe Hesley, following a 2-1 home win over Rotherham Town. Adam Simpson and Chaz Tunnard scored the goals for High Green, who have won their last eight matches after opening the season with back-to-back defeats.

Penistone Church Reserves made it five wins from their last six league games, with a 3-0 win over Sheffield Athletic at the Memorial Ground. Tim Council was on target again for Penistone, but the star of the show was two-goal Oliver Robinson.

Division Two

Kane Doughty scored a hat-trick to inspire Parkgate Reserves to an entertaining 4-3 home win over Kiveton Park. Dan Cabaya was also on target for the hosts who are just three points off Byron House’s lead, but have played a game more. Thomas Perrie (2) and Alex Thompson made up the score-sheet for Kiveton.

Shaw Lane Aqua Force Reserves were 4-1 winners over Maltby Main Reserves at Shaw Lane. The win is Shaw Lane’s third league win-in-a-row and takes them up to fifth place.

New Bohemians and Worsbrough Bridge Athletic Reserves played-out a rare goalless draw at the SHU Sports Ground.

U21 Division

Houghton Main U21 lead the way in the U21 Division after their 9-2 home win over Caribbean Sports U21 on Saturday. Giorgio Williams was the star, scoring three times for the hosts.

A Ryan Smith brace helped Athersley Recreation U21 to a 3-0 win over Denaby United U2 at Sheerien Park. Athersley are in second place, only separated from the leaders by a worse goal differential.

Both Corey Cresswell and Mused Salem scored twice as Millmoor Juniors U21 claimed their first league win since August, with a 5-2 win over Bawtry Town U21 at Grange Park.
