Swinton reclaim top spot, Denaby Main reach Association cup 1/2 finals

All but five games in the County Senior League were postponed due to the latest cold snap to hit the South Yorkshire region.

Premier Division

Swinton Athletic had the opportunity to take back top spot in the Premier Division as all but their game away against Wickersley was postponed in the Premier Division on Saturday. They took their chance, as goals from Shaun Turner and Alex Wilkinson gave them a 2-1 win at Wickersley School. Swinton now lead the way with a one point cushion over second placed Houghton Main. Still only four points separate the top five in a congested title race.

Division One

Penistone Church Reserves moved into third position in Division One in spectacular fashion, with a 5-0 home win over Ecclesfield Red Rose. Bradley Kemp was the star of the show for Penistone, scoring three times. Pete Hobson and Joe Baldwin were also on target for an in-form Penistone, who are unbeaten in the league since late-September (seven games ago).

U21 Division

Alex Lill and Aminur Rahman were on target for Swallownest Miners Welfare U21 as they beat Denaby United U21 2-1 at Old Road Playing Fields. The win stretches Swallownest’s unbeaten league run to seven games.

S&HCFA Association Cup

Worsbrough Bridge Athletic Reserves booked their place in the Quarter-finals of the Association Cup with an impressive 2-1 home win over Kirkburton. Worsbrough Bridge will host Kiveton Park in their Quarter-final tie.

Denaby Main of Division Two claimed the scalp of Division One leaders North Gawber Colliery to reach the Semi-finals of the Association Cup. Denaby Main were were 4-2 winners at Woolley Miners Welfare.
